On superconducting instability in non-Fermi liquid: scaling approach

چکیده

The superconducting instability in a non-Fermi liquid in d > 1 is considered. For a particular form of the single particle spectral function with homogeneous scaling A(Λk,Λω) = ΛA(k, ω) it is shown that the pair susceptibility is also a scaling function of temperature with power defined by α. We find three different regimes depending on the scaling constant. The BCS result is recovered for α = −1 and it corresponds to a marginal scaling of the coupling constant. For α > −1 the superconducting transition happens above some critical coupling. In the opposite case of α < −1 for any fixed coupling the system undergoes a transition at low temperatures. Possible implications for theories of high-Tc with a superconducting transition driven by the interlayer Josephson tunneling are discussed.

Roton Fermi liquid: A metallic phase of two-dimensional electrons

We introduce and analyze a metallic phase of two-dimensional s2Dd electrons, the roton Fermi liquid sRFLd, which, in contrast to the Landau–Fermi liquid, supports both gapless fermionic and bosonic quasiparticle excitations. The RFL is accessed using a reformulation of 2D electrons consisting of fermionic quasiparticles and hc /2e vortices interacting with a mutual long-ranged statistical inter...

Quantum critical scaling at the edge of Fermi liquid stability in a cuprate superconductor.

In the high-temperature cuprate superconductors, the pervasiveness of anomalous electronic transport properties suggests that violation of conventional Fermi liquid behavior is closely tied to superconductivity. In other classes of unconventional superconductors, atypical transport is well correlated with proximity to a quantum critical point, but the relative importance of quantum criticality ...

Luttinger Revisted-the Renormalization Group Approach

Luttinger's contributions abound in different parts of many-body physics. Here I review the ones that appear when one uses the Renormalization Group (RG) to study the subject: the Luttinger Liquid, Luttinger's Theorem (on the volume of the Fermi surface) and the Kohn-Luttinger Theorem on the superconducting instability of all metals as one approaches absolute zero.

Non-Fermi-liquid manifold in a Majorana device.

We propose and study a setup realizing a stable manifold of non-Fermi-liquid states. The device consists of a mesoscopic superconducting island hosting N≥3 Majorana bound states tunnel coupled to normal leads, with a Josephson contact to a bulk superconductor. We find a nontrivial interplay between multichannel Kondo and resonant Andreev reflection processes, which results in the fixed point ma...

These lectures serve as an introduction to the renormalization group approach to effective field theories , with emphasis on systems with a Fermi surface. For such systems, demanding appropriate scaling with respect to the renormalization group for the appropriate excitations leads directly to the important concept of quasiparticles and the connexion between large–N f treatments and renormaliza...
